MT. Lubog. The Hidden Treasure of Rodriguez Rizal

The summit is a wonderful haven of rocks formed at the top of the Mountain of Lubog. Its like a cave over the mountain.....

Location : Brgy. Puray Rodriguez, Rizal

Mount Lubog is located on Brgy. Puray Rodriguez Rizal (w/c is the Montalban Rizal Before). With an MASL of 955 and difficuly of 4/9 and different rock formation, the mountain is definitely a new destination for some hikers. According to the locales, Mt. Lubog is part of an area that is severely threatened by illegal logging, even as it is precariously close to Ipo Watershed, which supplies the water of Metro Manila. In order to secure its true beauty, we travelers must join the campaign on saving these wonderful places, for us to enjoy it while it last longer.

Starting our trip at around 1pm in the morning, upon completing the number of joiners, we immidiately look for the Van at Cubao going to Brgy. San Rafael (50php). Our meeting place is at the Jollibee Cubao, a common meeting place for those hikers going to Rizal. From Brgy. San Rafael we walk a bit but, when we reach a road that's muddy because it rained the day before that time. We decided to take the habal habal from there to Brgy. Puray. It was a really a long and bumpy ride about 1-3hours, we even experience getting out of the habal habal because the road was too steep and it may turn the habal habal upside down. But you don't need to worry , since the drivers were very experienced on that trail and they all know when you should go down and when should not. Its a long and butt wrecking ride but the experience was still worth it. Upon reaching the place of entry point, the locales there told us that we need to register and paid the logbook registration at the barangay hall (P50 registration fee). Also a courtesy call with military detachment.

Around 6 am we start our trek going to the peak its a very easy trail at first. Its because the walk ways are relatively flat since, we are still at the foot of the mountain that time. The most challenging part here was the pathway was covered with mud because as i said a while ago, it rained a day before our hike so we need to be extra careful. There are also some stop overs to eat some meals and to have some photo ops at the rock formation before we walk inside the forested area.

As we go deep into the mountain, we enter a tropical rain forest, strewn with limestone that foreshadow the rocky peak at the forest of Mt. Lubog. Then, there comes the most difficult part, when you need to wear your gloves to climb the rocks. But the place still an amazing one even if its a hard climb that you need to do. The different rock forms truly an awesome background in capturing photos at the area. As we continued, we definitely tired at some point but still want to reach the top.

Seeing the peak that time was the only thing that I wanted and which made me continue the hike. As what others really told on their experience at the Mountain, the peak is really a picturesque view of the Mountain Range of Sierra Madre. Definitely a breath of fresh air to breathe in, with its wonderful rock formation and a picture perfect view of the nature, these is really a new place to visit. As usual we didn't want to miss the chance to enjoy the view and take photos at the area. What a very nice view, a true beauty.

After enjoying the view, we've traverse on the same path we took earlier and as we reach the canteen of the locales. They offered us to cook food for our tired body with a cheap amount of contribution around 50 per person. As they served the tinola on us, it was so mouth watering and delicious meal. The chicken was so tender and the taste was awesome. Resting for a bit. The tour guide (take note the tour guide's rate is 400 per 5pax) told us that there is a hidden water falls there where we can take a good dip. So we also decided to visit the place and its such a beauty too. Clear water and a cold one too. We enjoyed the waterfalls, we even have a conversation on some of the motor riders at the area.

Leaving the place, we took the habal habal again around 5 pm, again, a bumpy one yet definitely an unforgettable experience. Not just the ride but also because you'll enjoy the sunset there and the city skyline. These are many nice view to endear from the foot of the mountain, to the peak, going down to riding the habal habal. They were all a very remarkable trip for us.

The place is a virgin one, A place to visit and enjoy. So please we travelers must be responsible to all of our actions on visiting the place to enjoy the Mountain to its fullest.
